25 Science Park Pilot: Move to the Next Generation Network (NGN)

The Next Generation Network is planned for deployment in 25 Science Park beginning Tuesday, February 4 through Friday, February 7.

  • Between 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. on a floor’s scheduled transition day, computers, phones, printers, remote desktop access, and conference room systems may experience wired network interruptions.
  • The wireless network will not be interrupted and will still be available.
  • Individuals will need to reboot their computers to benefit from all features of the new NGN network.

The wired network transition schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, February 4 – 5th floor (ITS)
  • Wednesday, February 5 – 4th floor (ITS)
  • Thursday, February 6 – 2nd Floor and 3rd Floor (Yale Shared Services and ORA)
  • Friday, February 7 – 6th Floor (Finance and ITS) and 1st Floor (Conference Room 125)

Wireless network transitions will be announced separately.

What action do I need to take to prepare for the new network?

Yale-managed
Windows computers
(including Managed Workstations)
Yale-managed
Mac computers

Your computer will be automatically configured to access NGN.
A reboot is required.

Authentication software will be distributed automatically, and macOS will prompt individuals to login. A reboot is required.
Please login with your NetID and password. This is a one-time action that occurs on your initial connection to NGN.

Non-ITS managed computers running Microsoft Windows or macOS, please visit the IT Software Library to install, run, and log in to the SecureW2 authentication tool for NGN.

Individuals will need to reboot their computers when arriving at work on their scheduled update day to benefit from all features of the new NGN network.

What will happen on the transition day?

Technicians will be working in network closets from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. to move wired connections from the current network to the Next Generation Network. During this transition time, you can expect:

  • Wire moves will interrupt connections for computers, phones, printers, and conference room systems.
  • Individuals arriving at work before 8:00 a.m. on their floor’s transition day may experience brief network interruptions, including a phone reboot.
  • Individuals using remote desktop access to connect to a computer on a transitioning floor may be disconnected.
  • The wireless network will not be interrupted and remain online. Individuals with laptops may choose to use YaleSecure wireless to maintain network connectivity.

What action do I have to take on my floor’s transition day?

Please restart your computer when you arrive at work. You will be prompted to log in as usual.

NOTE: Initial connection to the Next Generation Network may result in brief delays when accessing applications and websites for the first time. After login, please allow your computer some additional time to re-establish these connections.

What happens if I have an issue after my transition?

Contact the ITS Help Desk at helpme.yale.edu or 203-432-9000. ITS will address NGN transition tickets as a priority. IT Technicians will be on-site, and they will request tickets be submitted through the Help Desk.
